Where Greatness Meets
There’s nothing wrong with some friendly competition, in fact it’s a healthy thing in life and in business. It motivates us to do our very best and can be a source of fun and pleasure! Every year around Easter, the famous annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge universities takes place.
It stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames in south west London. Members of both teams are traditionally known as blues and each boat as a "Blue Boat", with Cambridge in light blue and Oxford dark blue. The crews who win the coin toss before the Race choose which side (or station) they will race on. The stations are known as Middlesex and Surrey, with advantages and disadvantages for each side because of the bends in the river.
The Race starts downstream of Putney Bridge and passes under Hammersmith Bridge and Barnes Bridge before finishing just before Chiswick Bridge. The finish is marked by the University Boat Race Stone on the Surrey Bank and a post in the river on the Middlesex side painted in the University's colours.
The first race actually took place way back in 1829 in Henley-on-Thames following a challenge between old school friends. Since the second race in 1836, this exciting contest has taken place in London. This year the men’s race will start at 3.10pm on Sunday 7th April 2019. Cambridge currently lead the series with 83 victories to Oxford’s 80 (with one dead-heat in 1877). The women’s boat race will also be held on the Championship Course just before at 2.13pm.
You can find out more information on the official boat race website.
Two of our best-selling briefcases happen to be called The Oxford and The Cambridge. Appropriately named as they are two totally different bags that are in constant competition to see who is the best seller each year. The biggest difference between The Oxford and The Cambridge is the size, which doesn't mean to say that if it’s bigger, it’s better.
The Cambridge Briefcase is meticulously crafted from vintage calf hide with luxurious contrast suede lining. Ideal for carrying a small laptop and essential paperwork, it has two compartments separated with a zip pocket. In the front section there is an internal zip pocket and in the back there's three suede pockets for all your personal effects and a leather card holder for three cards. The briefcase fastens with a secure lockable silver brass lock and quick release magnetic closures under the straps. You will also find another zip pocket on the reverse. This can be carried in the hand or over the shoulder as there is also an adjustable, detachable shoulder strap.
This unisex SageBrown ultra slim Oxford Briefcase is ideally suited for business people who carry the latest slimline laptop, tablet or essential documents. It provides one substantial section with a slip pocket and zip pocket at the front and one on the reverse. Inside there's leather loops for two pens and a smaller slip pocket. Handmade in calf leather in a smooth or crocodile skin texture and lined in luxurious contrast suede with a secure central magnetic clasp, this briefcase will definitely impress.
The larger Cambridge bag has 2 internal compartments whereas the Oxford has one. However the Oxford wins hands down on its sleek, uncluttered lines and is also available without a handle as a handy portfolio. The style is also noticeably different. The Cambridge has a more traditional feel with the rounded lock and buckle details whereas the Oxford looks more contemporary with a hidden magnetic clasp under the lid.
Although very different, they also share quite a few similarities. Both are meticulously crafted from durable calf hide available in a variety of colours and complemented with luxurious suede lining. The internal space is the perfect size for carrying A4 documents and a small laptop or tablet and they both have smaller pockets to store a mobile phone and cards
Both bags can also be personalised with your initials, a great way of making this bag totally unique to you. Initials can either be embossed onto the corner of the lid on both styles or The Cambridge lock can be engraved.
